Scope: These guidelines apply to all June Ave Neighbourhood Group (JANG) neighbours, volunteers, organizers, program participants, guests, and anyone attending JANG activities both in-person and online.
Purpose: JANG is a neighbourhood community built on kindness, respect, and care. Our goal is to create welcoming spaces where everyone feels safe, included, and valued. We celebrate the diversity of people in our neighbourhood and commit to treating each other with dignity at all times.
Our Commitments
We Welcome Everyone: JANG values the presence and contributions of neighbours of all ages, abilities, identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. We recognize and honour our differences and believe they strengthen our community.
We Treat Each Other with Respect: We aim to listen, be patient, and assume good intentions. We ask everyone to communicate kindly, share space fairly, and respect personal boundaries.
Unacceptable Behaviours
JANG does not tolerate:
- Harassment, bullying, discrimination, or exclusion of any kind
- Aggressive, threatening, or harmful behaviour
- Unwanted physical contact or sexual attention
- Destructive or violent actions
- Intimidation, shaming, or behaviour that undermines someone’s safety or dignity
- Online or in-person harassment
If someone’s behaviour causes harm, discomfort, or a hostile environment, even unintentionally, it will be addressed.
How We Handle Concerns
We encourage neighbours to resolve minor issues directly and respectfully where possible.
If you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or unsure how to proceed, you can bring concerns to a JANG organizer. We will:
- Listen without judgment
- Respect your privacy as much as possible
- Work with you to understand and address the issue
- Use mediation or outside support if needed
Anyone asked to stop harmful behaviour is expected to cooperate immediately. Continued or serious issues may result in removal from activities or involvement.
Putting Our Values into Practice
Please help build a kind and inclusive neighbourhood by:
- Using welcoming, non-offensive language
- Listening actively and giving everyone a chance to speak
- Respecting boundaries (ask before physical contact)
- Avoiding assumptions about identity, background, or experiences
- Being open to feedback and learning
We’re all responsible for making JANG a supportive community.
